Caburn Telecom returns from Connected Car Insurance 2016

Earlier in the month, we headed down to London to attend the annual Connected Car Insurance event. Focused on the technological challenges and business models impacting the motor insurance industry, the event is one of the biggest in Europe, bringing together 400 attendees from over 25 countries. With over 50 presentations, talks ranged from the importance of connected mobility, big data and telematics, to discussions about how the industry will evolve, with the topic of driverless cars inevitably on the agenda.

It was a great opportunity to meet some new faces as well as catch up clients. Nick Walker announced the launch of the RAC’s fantastic new app that delivers all the benefits of the Connected Car of the Future. With many of the speakers talking up app-based usage-based insurance (UBI) as a mass-market adoption tool, it was refreshing (from a connectivity perspective) to see the RAC offer a more holistic approach; recognising the growing importance of an installed telematics device that can not only defeat UBI fraud but can report valuable additional information such as vehicle condition and service history. This is surely the future for telematics.

Indro Mukerjee and the Hubio team also put on a great show to launch a fresh new brand into the market. It’s hard not to be impressed by the thoroughness of their B2B focused “white labelled” UBI offering – inspiring stuff!
